Abstract
Tissue adhesives have been widely utilized for sealing, immobilization, and adhesion of biological tissues and organs. Their use can be divided into two categories such as soft and hard tissues according to application parts. In particular, the former for wound care includes cyanoacrylate instant adhesive, fibrin glue, protein glue, polyurethane adhesive, polyethylene glycol (PEG) sealant, marine mussel adhesive, etc. Among them, Dermabond?, 2-octyl cyanoacrylate, was approved by the FDA as a topical skin adhesive and thus it is expected to be extended to apply for wound closure and sealing of surgical incisions. This review deals with the recent trend of R&D in tissue adhesives and their characteristics and uses in wound care. (J Korean Wound Management Soc 2008;4:96-104)
